Juan Carlos Busto Cortina is a Lecturer (Profesor Titular) of Romance Philology in the Department of Classical and Romance Philology at the University of Oviedo (Spain), where he implemented the study of Catalan and other minorized literatures from Spain. He is a member of the Seminary on Asturian Philology and the Seminary on Arabo-Romance Studies at the University of Oviedo. He founded the Revista de Filoloxía Asturiana and was Deputy Director of the Bibliographic Bulletin Aljamía.
Dr. Busto Cortina has also worked on Oral Folk Literature («Catálogo-índice de Romances Asturianos») and wrote his PhD thesis and several articles on the literature of the religious minority of the Moriscos. In the field of Iberian Studies, he has contributed several papers focusing on Asturian literature and its relation to Castilian and Galician literatures, and has also studied and edited several Asturian authors from the Jovellanos’ circle (Xosefa Xovellanos, Benito de l’Auxa, etc.).
His works on Iberian Studies include “Presencia de la llingua asturiana fuera d’Asturies en colecciones documentales ya obres impreses (sieglu XIX)” (2002), “El surdimientu de la novela en gallegu y n’asturianu” (2009), “Gaspar de Jovellanos y el asturiano literario” (2010), “Llingua asturiana y Ilustración” (2012), “Tres poetas en el entorno de Feijoo: Bernaldo de Quirós, Martín Sarmiento y Lavandera Reyero” (2016) and “Nuevos textos literarios asturianos del XVII y un nuevo testimonio del entremés de L’Alcalde” (2017).
