Arturo Casas is a Profesor Catedrático (Professor) of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. He has a wide set of research interests including Aesthetics, Literary Theory, Literary History, and 20th century Galician and Spanish poetry. Additionally, he is a member of the Institute of Comparative Literature Margarida Losa (Universidade do Porto) and of the Grupo Intermedialidades, coordinated by Rosa Maria Martelo. He is also a member of EcoLab.gal, Laboratorio Galego de Ecocrítica, coordinated by César Domínguez.
Casas has contributed to the field of Iberian Studies through several theoretical and methodological reflexions, such as his study of Inter-literary Theory and Polysystems Theory in the context of the Iberian Peninsula. His publications in this area include “Problemas de Historia Comparada: la comunidad interliteraria ibérica” (2000), “Sistema interliterario y planificación historiográfica a propósito del espacio geocultural ibérico” (2003), “Literaturas nacionais e espacios interculturais: o modelo teórico de Dionýz Durisin no contexto da renovación da historia literaria comparada” (2007), and “Constituiçom de umha história literária de base sistémica: o sistema cultural como objecto de análise histórica no programa de investigaçom de Itamar Even-Zohar” (2008). In 2021 he published Procesos da historiografía literaria galega. Para un debate crítico, which gathers some of his reflections on Galician and Iberian literary history.
